We’ve recently updated our September trail running race calendar! Here we bring you a small selection of our favourite trail races for the month, we’ve selected them on the basis of great scenery and English information available on websites.

What’s coming up on the trails in September?
With the sometimes suffocating Italian heat easing off by September, and the majority of Italians back at work, families busily, preparing for autumn term in schools, the trails can seem to be magically transformed into personal playgrounds just for trail runners to enjoy!
5 Epic trails races in Italy this September
The AVP501 Endurance Trail
Finally September sees the “off” for the AVP501 Endurance event, which we covered here earlier this year . It kicks off for a whole week from September the 1st to the 9th.
The race route takes runners along the Long Distance Walking Path, the “Alta Via Dei Parchi“, which starts in Rimini’s Pennabilli, and finishes westwards in Parma’s Berceto. If 501km isn’t your cup of tea, there’s two shorter distances are available.
When: 1-9 September 2018
Where: Starts in Pennabilli (Rimini), Emilia-Romagna and ends in Berceto, Parma, Emilia Romagna – Italy
Distance / elevation gain: 501km / 30000m D+ AND 21k and 56k

- Race route takes place on the Alta Via Dei Parchi – Long distance footpath that crosses two of Italy’s National Parks.

Retrace Hannibal’s 218 BC crossing of the Alps
In 218 BC Hannibal crossed the Alps having come from Spain, across France and into Italy together with a raging Carthaginian army along with more than 30 elephants. Considered to be one of the greatest achievements in military history, you can read about this fascinating journey HERE.
This race, the: “Via di Annibale Trail”, translating into: “Hannibal’s Way”, claims that Hannibal actually passed through same route that the trail race covers, and not what’s considered to be the official route! In the video – Punta Costan at 3305m – the highest point of the trail race!

2018 sees the 11th edition of this tough race. The Maga Sky Marathon will have you running up in the clouds, at an altitude of over 2400 metres. This race has it all, trail, paths, Alpine pastures, crest, rocks, stone, via ferrata, exposed parts, narrow ledges, rocky slopes, scree…

This is where RD Lizzy Hawker used to train whilst living in the area, often staying out on the trails for twelve hours or more.
The Ultra Tour Monte Rosa has a spectacular race route that follows the long distance trail that encircles the magnificent Monte Rosa. This is the race that Lizzy Hawker would have loved to run!

Run high in the clouds!
The Dolomiti Brenta Trail race takes place in the “Adamello Brenta Park”. It will have you running at high altitude with most of the race course over 2000m – the highest point being at the 48th km at the Bocca di Brenta 2552m.
The Adamello Brenta Nature Park is located in the western part of Trentino, in one of the most popular parts of the Dolomites, and includes both the Adamello and Brenta mountain ranges.
