An end of season race, rich in UTMB points

317 athletes representing 16 nations. Race routes of 90, 60, 44 and 30km. These are just some of the numbers that made up the 2016 edition of the Trail del Cinghiale – now in its 5th year, which took place in Casola Valsenio, Ravenna (Emilia Romagna) – on Saturday 26th November  2016.

scritta-trail-del-cinghialeA popular race with foreign athletes on the hunt for UTMB points. The late November race date, means that it’s an ideal end of season race. And if you’ve had a good trail running year, the Trail del Cinghiale can be your crowning glory.
It’s vicinity to Bologna, Pisa, and Florence airports (check out our Italian Airports guide) means it’s easy to get to and can be neatly fitted into a long weekend.

Hills, hills and more hills

A hilly course which the Italians aptly call ‘nervoso’nervous – had athletes running up and down through autumn woodland, along crests, upon stony Apennine paths and dealing with the heavy terrain of ‘the usual’ muddy parts. Although luckily, weather on the day was excellent.

The 2016 race saw the introduction of the 90km route starting in Palazzuolo sul Senio in Tuscany (all other distances start from Casola Valsenio in Emilia Romagna). Local Bike Team A.S.D. Senio Bike oversaw the logistics of the new starting point, making sure that runners benefited from the whole town’s enthusiastic involvement, with a festive race atmosphere.

Trail del Cinghiale

Italy on trail spoke to race director Marco Gurioli from A.S.D. Leopodistica – A.S.D. I Cinghiali, who summed up this year’s event, “The 2016 Trail del Cinghiale (which translates to Wild Boar Trail!) will be remembered for being a very ‘people friendly‘ trail. Even though the Trail del Cinghiale has become an international event, we still like to keep things down to earth, and pamper participants, especially at the refreshment stations, offering both the generosity and warmth that the Tuscan-Romagnoli Italians are well known for.”

The A.S.D. Leopodistica also organise the Krash Trail – 1st May 2017. From Brisighella to Faenza. Point-to point. 44Km 2000D+
