“Signing Up” for an Italian Trail Event!

How To Do “Race Registration” The Italian Way

by Maria E. Bellini

So you’ve decided that you want to run a Trail race in Italy! Nearly all Italian Trail running events will have an early bird policy set up with several cut off dates whereby race entry fees will increase. This is usually clearly indicated in the race rules.

Most larger Trail running events will have a link on the registration page that will send you directly to one of the main Italian websites that handles race entry and management. If this is your first time entering a Trail running event in Italy – it can be quite a big step to actually sign up for the race – specially if you have spent a while deciding which race is best for you.

Race Registration management websites

These multilingual portals (which also have their own events calendars) require you to register and create an account. You will then be able to manage your details and subsequent race sign ups.

Individual races will have differing entry requirements, which will be listed on the race page.
Payment methods will usually be possible by PayPal and major credit cards.

Smaller scale Trail running events

With smaller Trail running races, resources many not stretch to a fully blown race management service, therefore race registration may follow a different route.

Race registration

There may be an entry form to fill in, either online, or to download. You may be required to make a bank payment directly to the athletics Club that organises the event. This is a perfectly normal procedure in Italy. And then you may be asked to send proof of payment, completed entry form, a medical certificate (requirements will differ) and a waiver to a designated email address.

If you are unclear about anything, contact the race organisers directly.

In some cases it is possible to enter on the day. But we would strongly advise against this – specially if you’ve travelled a long way.

Good luck! You’ll be one step nearer collecting your bib-number and sorting out your mandatory kit!!
