Krash Trail – Art, Trails and Vineyards

Modelled into a circular disc of clay lies the story of the Krash Trail race

Two clock towers, Brisighella’s to the left and Faenza’s to the right, indicate race start and finish. The explosive form of a trail runner as a central figure between the two. Behind him, a single line illustrates the race profile, a strong contour which follows the mountain chain, culminating with the rugged peaks of Mount Mauro, vigil and protective over all who cross these lands.

Man. Surrounded by space and time. Absorbing and releasing the prescious gift of energy that nature has to offer.
This is the story of the Krash Trail, etched onto the 2018 finishers medal, lovingly designed by artist Carlo Zoli.

It’s no wonder that Krash Trail finisher’s medal is so evocative. Let’s set the location, we’re in the Faenza area, an Italian hub for pottery and ceramics. Located just 50k to the east of Bologna, 42k to Ravenna and 88k north of Florence, Faenza boasts a long historical tradition of ceramics and is today home to the International Museum of Ceramics. So when it came to deciding on the 2018 race finishers medal, the Krash Trail race direction, under guise of the Leopodistica running club, called upon renowned sculptor Carlo Zoli to capture the spirit of the event and embody it on a the race medal.

As race director Marco Gurioli told Italyontrail.com, “The message that I like to read in this medal is that over time, represented by the two clock towers, the human and natural elements intertwine yet always remain central.”

A straightforward point to point race route. Starting under the shadow of the clock tower in the medieval hamlet of Brisighella in the Lamone Valley. The Krash Trail, crosses one of Italy’s most curious landscapes, along the silvery ridge of the gypsum vein, over the chalky rocks and badlands of the mountain chain in the “Parco della Vena del Gesso Romagnola”. Finally winding up towards Faenza through the gentle Sangiovese and Albana di Romagna vineyards only to reach a spectacular finish, after some 44k, through the streets of the historical centre of Faenza, towards another clock tower, and across the finish line in Piazza del Popolo, Faenza’s main piazza.
