Depending on your current fitness levels and training, if you haven’t chosen a goal trail race for this summer yet, why not consider one of these Italian trail races?
We’ve come up with a selection challenges that take place in June, which are perfect as destination trail running events, and could be the focus point of a trail based holiday in Italy. We’ve looked at the longer distances that the events offer – although all of them have shorter distances too.
JUNE 2019 Trail Running Ultras Italy
Durona Trail 62k
If you’re looking at traveling in June 2019, the ultra distance at the Durona Trail comes in at a ‘comfortable’ 62km with 3500m D+.
The race takes place on 8th of June 2019 in Veneto’s Valle del Chiampo, (Chiampo Valley) a pre-alpine valley between the Piccole Dolomiti and the Lessini mountains.
The nearest major town is Vicenza and the nearest international airports are Verona or Venice. The race location is also about 50km from Italy’s Lake Garda and 70km from Venice, making it a strategic trail to add in some quality down time.
Alvi Ultra 400k – stage race
400k in 8 stages for the Alvi Ultra Liguria. This the longest distance of the Alvi Trail event, it starts in the picturesque seaside town of Dolceacqua, Imperia and finishes in Portovenere, Spezia and takes place from the 15th to 22nd June 2019.
In 8 days trail runners will cover a distance of 400km (Alvi ULTRA) and 200km (Alvi ADVENTURE) crossing seven regional parks, including the Cinque Terre Park known for it’s spectacular views and the five hilltop villages perched on Liguria’s rocky coastal line.
Nearest airports are either Nice in France, Genoa or Milan in Italy.
Ultra Serra di Celano 90k
We head down to central Italy and Abruzzo for the 90km of the Ultra Serra di Celano. A tough 6700m D+ means that this is not a race to be undertaken lightly. Race profile is impressive with boasts strong climbs, and you may find using poles beneficial. Highest point of race profile is 2355m.
Lavaredo Ultra Trail
Probably the most famous Italian ultra trail to date. The LUT as it’s known is a 120 km ultra trail along the Dolomites that starts and finishes in Cortina d’Ampezzo, taking in the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
